"I am 'gatvol' for beggin. Please I need your scholarship donation!"

Maak jy werklik ‘n verskil wanneer jy die man op die straathoek met die smeekbede om die nek ‘n paar munte in die hand stop?

Are you really making a difference when you hand out those brown coins to the man with the board around his neck on the street corner? Deep inside you know the answer is ‘no!’, perhaps a quick fix, but no real help!.

Yet, there is something in your nature that wants to make a difference, something that wants to help and also feels for the need of suffering people.

Amajobjob scholarship programme:

How does this scholarship in Amajobjob translate into sustainable transformation?

In the past 15 post-apartheid years, government, corporate sector and donor agencies focused their budgets on skills development of disenfranchised groups As a result, many artisan groups sprung up with baseline skills. Many individuals have had additional training opportunities e.g. product development, marketing, entrepreneurship training, etc. as could be seen from the certificates on their walls.

Example:
To illustrate how it works, let’s take our bag manufacturing division as a practical example.

  1. Amajobjob selects seamstresses from poor communities who are at a level A3 (They typically have average technical industrial sewing skills and additionally have access to a sewing machine).
  2. Amajobjob now takes the successfully selected applicants to the next level of competency by offering a “workplace rigorous scholarship” based on the unique A2B methodology. The scholarship takes place in real production environments and scholars are taken through a toughening process full of manufacturing challenges.
  3. The ultimate aim is that scholars reach high quality and productivity levels in manufacturing, but even more so, develop analytical skills, take initiative and solve own problems. Every person is unique and therefore has a different pace in reaching this level of competency.
  4. Once these clients have successfully complied to “production smartness levels”, they start working from their own choice of premises, within a subcontracted relationship with Amajobjob. Every time a new product order is acquired by Amajobjob’s marketing division, they spend another period at the centre to obtain new product competencies.
  5. Amajobjob entrepreneurs should have their own infrastructure and tools, and have the ability to work independently, performing own quality control.
  6. Not only is the full cycle( holistic) socio economic wellness addressed but a greater sense of dignity is also developed within this unique A2B approach.

Case study:

“ Fransisca is responsible for feeding 9 people.

She is one remarkable woman who has tenacity more than most, and who has determination to succeed. She is a Amajobjob level 3 implementer who works from a corrugated zink shack in someone’s back yard. She was fortunate that some goodhearted lady donated her an industrial machine.

She makes average 31 bags a day and after every 3rd day she brings 93 bags and collects R 1395- . You can calculate for yourself how much she earns for her family in a month. See in the picture the heaps of money as a reward to her efforts. She has grown her dignity through her doings!

Where is the funding for scholarship coming from and what is the cost per person?

  1. Currently the cost is R16 000- per individual. Down payment is accepted with a 25% deposit followed by installments.
  2. Similarly to a study at University or Technicon, a disadvantaged applicant requires a sponsorship from someone. This might be the perfect opportunity for you as you might not have time to transform people yourself, but tired of giving money without any tangible socio economic results.
  3. The benefit of the Amajobjob scholarship compared to other training institutions is not only the personal mentoring and re engineering of the mindset, but it guarantees that all scholarship graduates will have an income generating opportunity that starts them on their entrepreneurship pathway.

Enrolments of scholars occur throughout the year.

We firmly believe that sustainable development is a process that must start from motivation within

You may decide to stop “coining” the healthy beggar in your neighborhood – and get him/her off the street by sponsoring a specific person. However, people who have no technical skill will have to embark upon a longer journey of baseline training by other NGO’s or church organizations, before we can get them into a Amajobjob income generation value chain.

Alternatively you may choose applicants who yearn to enroll but who do not have the means. We receive such applicants on a daily basis but have to send them back due to lack of funding. Below are some of the more than 50 presently on a waiting list, pending scholarship fees.

"Lets create sustainable wealth" rather than "Lets alleviate poverty"
